project progress// heritage baptist church texarkana, tx

For the past few months we have been working with Heritage Baptist Church in Texarkana, TX developing an immersive, engaging street-themed environment for their renovated family wing. The project is getting close to completion, but we wanted to go ahead and share some of our progress!

The church wanted a break from the original space which was quite mural-heavy and visually…well…overwhelming (lots of dense jungle…)  They knew that they wanted a street/city themed environment featuring facades that are reminiscent of actual Texarkana landmarks and chose to call the environment Kid City.  We chose a lighter color palette to help the area feel appropriate for both their elementary and nursery attenders.  We also specified a street and railroad tie floor pattern to lead you through the space.

There are more hallway facades to come as well as two large group stages for the kids!

One of the city's main features is that half of it lies in Texas, and the other in Arkansas.

A look into the future large group spaces…

welcome to the Friendship Factory. It's for preschoolers. They make friends here ;)

…and the Upstreet stage.  Industrial clubhouses are pretty fun too :)

project progress // cornerstone church athens, ga

We are excited to be working with Cornerstone Church of God on their new facility on the east side of Athens.   This space is just up the road from their current one and will provide many opportunities for them to continue to grow, serve, and love the community of Athens.

For this project, we are providing exterior selections and all FF&E for the interior. The building features an adult worship center, 3 large group spaces for their youth, a nursery wing, 10 staff offices, as well as several multi-use spaces for the many programs and ministries that the church offers to serve its attenders and local homeless.

The building is scheduled to open November 2013.   Looking forward to creating great spaces for their attenders and staff!

progress at the site!

It'll look a lot like this architect's rendering when it's done…

partners in design crime

So excited to have two interns with me this summer. Looking forward to sharing what I've learned over the years and encouraging and equipping them for the next steps in their design careers. What a great opportunity to help them bridge the gap between school and the real world!

These lovely ladies come from the two interior design programs at the University of Georgia. Throughout the summer they're getting experience in project management, client presentations, meeting with hired trades, and they're even getting to work on designing some spaces too! We have several projects in the works ranging from residential decorating to commercial multi-use…. kids space theming… wayfinding signage design… these ladies are working hard and getting exposure to a wide variety of design opportunities.  It's a wonderful sight to see them make the connections from their classroom learning to the field. (They're like lightbulb moments… only ours our cute edison filament bulbs…)

Meet my partners in design crime for the next few months: Lia and Christen.

crumpler nursery

When Carlester and Yarid contacted me, we had 1 month to turn a grey bedroom into a fun, modern toddler room + nursery.  I love a good challenge :) and I'm so pleased with how the space turned out. The client wanted the room to be simple and clean but use a lot of color….AND it needed to be gender neutral--- they had decided to not know whether the new baby would be a boy or a girl and wanted a design that would work either way. We used FLOR tiles to bring all of the colors together, orange chair is from CB2, drapes from Crate & Barrel, and a fun tree decal from Ollie & Lime. Paint color is Sherwin Williams 6774 Freshwater. Sophia is in the pic exploring her new room.
